In this section I'll be documenting home renovations as well as other design related topics. I have the opportunity for my first local project here in Savannah (my own home).
Let's get started...
Bungalow Renovation: The Overview
The house was built in 1940 and is a single story 1,340 square foot bungalow. The exterior wall construction is concrete block. The roof material is asphalt shingles and is approximately 20 years old. There is currently no central a/c and an old (heat) furnace below the hallway floor that has not been operational for over 10 years. The electrical service has been upgraded to a 200 amp panel. The house is located on the north side of the street and is situated on a 60-foot wide x 120-foot deep lot (we'll talk more about the yard at a later date). The living room, dining room and kitchen are located at the front of the house and are south facing. Three bedrooms and one bathroom are located at the rear of the house. There is an unfinished attic above which can only be accessed by a pull-down stair in the hallway. There is a crawl space below with about a 2 foot clear height. The original features of the house include: kitchen cabinets & sink, bathroom tiles & tub, fireplace, built-in bookshelf, front door and windows, doors and windows trim, dining room wainscot, baseboards and crown moldings. There is oak flooring throughout that is also original (with the exception of the kitchen and bath) which appears to be in decent condition.
